When Your Night Feels Too Long: A Nasheed Poem for Silent Battles

There are nights that stretch beyond time. When the silence is loud, the thoughts won’t stop, and your heart feels heavier than your body can carry.

If you know this feeling—the weight of tears in sujood, the ache of longing for dawn, the exhaustion of smiling through pain—then I want you to know something.

You are not alone.

There is a nasheed called “طالَ ليلي (My Night Has Grown Long). And honestly? It feels  more like a prayer from every wounded soul who has ever whispered to Allah in the dark.

This nasheed sees your hidden tears. It knows the silent battles you fight when no one is watching—the swinging between sin and hope, the fear of being forgotten, the quiet cry for mercy before Fajr.

🌙 If you have ever:

– Cried with your forehead on the ground,

– Felt lost in your own darkness,

– Waited desperately for a light that wouldn’t come,

– Or pretended to be strong while falling apart inside…

Then let this (Poem for Silent Battles) be your voice tonight.

Last Cry to Allah | Poem For Hopeless | A Remedy for Grief

My Night Has Grown Long, O Lord

My night has grown long, O Lord,

and the silence wears away my breath.

I speak to a distant star—

none hears my whisper but You.

I stretch my hand into the darkness,

but find nothing but my shadow.

And I feel that my heart is melting slowly in my night.

My night is long while people sleep.

I am a prisoner of my thoughts,

counting the disappointments of my life

and the return of bitter pain.

I smile when people see me,

as if I am the strongest of all—

but when I close my door,

my fleeting patience collapses.

How often I said, I am fine,

while I was lying in my silence,

hiding behind my laughter

a thousand stories of pain and silence.

O my Lord, this night is heavy,

and I am weak, without support.

If You don’t touch my heart with mercy,

I will sink, sink further into the abyss.

My night has grown long, O Lord—

and the dawn has not knocked on my door.

I cry with a voice that isn’t heard,

except in the sanctuary of my suffering.

My night is long,

and all the stars inside me have been extinguished.

Take my hand in Your vast mercy,

and save my heart from clouds.

I walk like a ghost in the streets,

as if I am something without a shadow.

I carry a fear in my chest

that knows neither sleep nor solution.

I am tired of war with myself—

from a thought that never ends,

from the memories that return

whenever I try to let go.

I ran towards safety,

but my heart’s turmoil only increased.

I thought that the light was near—

but it was only a mirage.

O my Lord, I am weaker than what appears to the eyes.

Inside me is a crying child,

trembling amidst the doubts.

My night is long, O Lord—

and the wound dwells in my chest.

If there is darkness in my heart,

then the light of Your pardon is my dawn.

My night is long, so have mercy on me.

If the place has grown narrow for me,

You are the hope when all is lost,

and You are the safety and security.

My night is long without a moon—

the sound of the wind comforts me.

I ask myself, *Am I forgotten?*

Yet my years haven’t forgotten me.

I fear passing through life alone,

without a trace or a prayer.

I fear my heart will go out before knowing hope.

How many days passed without meaning—

how many dreams passed and died—

while I arranged my tears so my strength wouldn’t see them.

O Lord, if I have erred, then to You is my escape.

There’s no refuge in this night except Your mercy.

If my night is long, You are the dawn.

If my path is lost, You are the way.

I am a servant with a broken soul,

calling You from the depths.

Don’t leave me in my loneliness,

for fear is consuming my chest.

Take me close to You

and wipe away my fate with Your hand.

My night is long, but I still hope for the morning.

If my tears are many,

Your mercy is greater than my wounds.

Purify my heart from its sadness,

turn my fear into calmness,

and write for me a beautiful dawn after years of doubt.

I will wait for the dawn patiently,

even if its light is delayed—

for every night, no matter how long,

must one day be crossed.

If the world tightens around me, Your door is the widest.

If I cry in my darkness, Your light erases the torment.

My night is long, but I am still calling You, O Lord.

If the dawn is far, my heart is attached to You—

A weak servant waiting for the light

at the end of the night.

Final line for you, dear reader:

🤍 You are seen. You are heard. And His mercy is always nearer than your pain.
